I remember those awful times and the reports that came from that fiasco. The reports from the news on those days were worded even gloomier that portrayed here, Tara! Jimmy *give-away-the-Panama-Canal* Carter was a fiasco of a president, exceeded by the two most recent Dems.

Yes and Iran was at the center of it all.

Tragic story . . . but at least we tried, and I don’t think we asked for anyone’s approval to go after the hostages. Fast forward to today . . . who do we think we are to want to tell Israel how to secure their hostages ? And behind it all is Iran . . . AGAIN ! It is said that more is learned from failure, than success. I’m not sure that we always do. A separate thought and just my opinion: I think former President Carter is a very good man, perhaps one of the best people to have ever served as President, but I don’t think he was a very good President. Strictly my opinion. Great read this morning, Tara.

It was a poorly conceived op from the beginning, there were participants from every branch of service involved. Purple Ops (Joint) seems normal today but back then, we did little to none of it. No one cross trained, we trained in service specific isolation. Communication systems were not compatible, Helo Ops were done differently between services etc. It was done so everyone got a "piece of the pie". It cost lives and more. We did learn from it but it took many years for the lessons to take hold.

I remember that travesty as America was weak in foreign policy. Carter was a wreck as a President (a decent man) his policies both home and abroad took America into a real bad recession. That God we elected Reagan. Iran fear him and they released they hostages before he could attack them. Iran has been playing democrat Presidents since, in my opinion....

When I first learned of this mission I was shocked that our beloved forces failed. I have learned a lot since about the mission. I have been party to training with Special Forces and learned how to succeed on these missions. I seem to remember Navy Seals were also involved and were in Tehran waiting for the teams to arrive. I will never forget those lives lost to save others. God bless all who participated in that mission and those we lost may they RIP forever. Thanks Tara for reminding us of this mission anniversary.

This is so sad. I remember this tragic event. It was heartbreaking. 💔 It’s good that improvements were made although too late for those who were involved in the rescue attempt. Sometimes you do wonder who is making such risky decisions. Things can always go wrong, but sometimes it seems the wrong people are leading and it turns out bad. Many things and people are involved in the ultimate outcome. So sad for all the men who lost their lives and their families forever affected by this terrible tragedy.

We learned quite a bit about sand and the ability of engine air particle separators to filter it, which was instituted into subsequent helicopters. Further, we actually studied different sands across the globe, that knowledge was also incorporated into future designs…

I fear we've as nation digressed in recent years and forgotten what was learned from that horrible part of our recent history.

No doubt. It’s right out in the open.

Carter was the worst succeeded by our current president. We finally got them home with the help of Reagan. Unfortunately Murphys law was in effect here too…what can happen…will.

I remember this event clearly and it was so disappointing that the mission had gone so wrong. Actually, I was frustrated with then President Carter and the military. Of course, we didn't know the details of the mission nor, it's difficulty.

This was the beginning of the terrible Iranian regime that now probably has nuclear weapons and is the major funder of terrorism in the middle East. Thank you Tara for remembering the anniversary of this event.

This was a sad day for America. It is a prime example when the American people elected an incompetent person with no proven experience in international affairs or military experience. Jimmy Carter for decades was dubbed the worst president in our history. Unfortunately Joe Biden has now taken that position.

We all need to pray that God will bless us all with a new leader for our Country that most all of us can support and elect as POTUS.

God Bless America!

Historians have already place Trump on the bottom, and he is beneath a lot of mediocre predecessors.

Thank you for the reminder. I do remember that time in our history. Pres Carter is a good man, but, a weak leader. History repeats..

I remember it well. Carter tried, but only once. When Reagan took office the Iranians quickly capitulated. I am not sure if it was due to efforts made by Carter’s administration or if the Iranians realize that Reagan would respond with a firmer hand. The end, Reagan had Carter take the spotlight when the hostages were released, which was certainly an action which showed Reagan’s depth of character as being good hearted and strong.

I remember those days. Jimmy Carter is a very kind and gentle man. However, his gentleness did not make for a good President. I called him "cannot make a decision". And here we are 35 years later and Iran is creating havoc, yet again. Unfortunately, the current administration is helping Iran with the chaos (imo)
