I for one, had not heard of "Operation Dragoon". Perhaps it was because of it's 'easy' success, although I am certain that the troops that did the work would have called it easy. Still, now I know of it's occruance. Thank you, Tara Ross for bringing this amphious assault to light.
Thank you Tara. My father spent this part of the war on a Navy LST in support of the efforts to free France and Italy. I agree that Operation Dragoon was very successful.
The French people had to be very thankful for the Allied forces success.
I had read about Operation Dragoon about 4-5 years ago. It was one of the most successful operations in Europe. That was in part due to the intense diversion of Nazi troops fighting the D-Day operations but was just as important in reclaiming and liberating French soil.
It’s really sad how European Countries have turned away from the USA that set their countries free from Nazi Germany.
This is an amazing account of excellent combat strategy. It’s another great historical lesson we should teach in schools. Parents should be informed about these important events and share them with their children. Just like we can learn from mistakes we can also learn from success. Thanks, Tara, for another good post.
Thank you Tara. This is the first time ever got any information about Operation Dragoon. Guess its quick success, did not make it interesting enough for books to be published about it, or a movie to be made.

Thank you, Tara.
I knew of a Southern offensive though not the name. Thanks for this important lesson in WWII Tara.
Thank you, Tara, for this unknown story, to me, of a separate invasion of Europe that helped end the war in Europe!
