I think it really was a step in the right direction to offer peaceful resolution for more than just that resolution. The King's response was only an affirmation of what was done on July 2 and then declared openly on the 4th of July, 1776.

Thanks for this wonderful story, Tara!

I'm sure Adams didn't mind being proved right either!

There’s always something new to learn about the beginnings of this country. It was a bumpy road. The Olive Branch Petition is an interesting document. It doesn’t seem like it would have been supported by people whose goal was to be free. Perhaps it wasn’t or perhaps people changed their minds, because it all changed in a year’s time. It went from Olive Branch to Declaration of Independence. Goes to show how quickly things can be turned around when pursuing the protection of liberty and freedom.

Thank you Tara. Yes, the Olive Branch Petition was a waste of time, John Adams' reputation was redeemed and, Yes, we won our Independence.

May we do everything necessary to keep it.

We are still and have proven throughout history to be an independent Nation blessed by God. We are still the freest country the world has ever seen, no matter what some may believe. God Bless the United States of America!

I will say that the colonists seeking to avert open hostilities were doing so. I cannot help but wonder about the king's advisors though. We may never really know.

I've recently started reading (an old paperback), titled: George Washington's Secret Six. It's written by Brian Kilmeade. His book confirms so much of what you shared today. The colonists drafting of the Declaration of Independence, was not received very well, by King George.

The Colonists had "a great document" yet, still had to clash with the British over several years to gain freedom from "the mother land".

Funny how Adams went from outcast to the Declaration principal Father and Supporter. Without Adams, there is no DOI!

The Founders tried to appease the Tyrant but the tyrant should have nothing to do with it!

In the end the Tyrant lost it all to our nation’s Founders and our nation was born to support FREEDOM from tyrannical governance!

Thank you Tara!

It is an even stronger belief on my part that the happenings, that this story relates, demonstrates that GOD was bringing about all of the persons, and their actions, to set our cause of action into revolution. It was a necessary step in our historic creation of our national liberty.
