Unbelievable heroism with a humble attitude and strong fervor to do everything he could do with God’s help to change the situation in the favor of his troop and other American troops in this battle. Amazing leadership that moved others to follow his lead. Thank you, Tara, for taking the time and effort to share these Medal of Honor recipients stories with us.
Nicky Daniel Bacon was awarded the MOH for extreme bravery and heroism during a battle that saw him assume command of the troops following the loss of more than one Commander. His leadership allowed his men to gain control of a much larger enemy force that was better equipped.
The enemy shot up his equipment and blew him into a hole but he kept getting up and fought.
Interesting but not surprising, Mr. Bacon believes that his survival was due to God's protection and given the status of his equipment and clothing, it would be difficult to disagree. God gave him personal protection so that he could continue to lead his men to victory.
Tara, I believe that this is another example following several others in succession, of Divine Providence and intervention.
God, continue to bless all who serve or have served this great nation. Thank you Tara.
I loved the statement he made about heroism - very humble as all of the MOH folks are. It was great to know he depended on God to help him - a great witness. Those who "just do what they have to do|" are examples we all can follow. Thank you, Tara.
This brings to my mind one of my favorite quotes: “The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall." E. G. White
Bacon made sure his actions reflected the true nature of the soldier. Thank you, sir!
A young man with leadership skills, faith, and a can-do attitude. A worthy MoH recipient and a hero who saved lives. Great story, Tara. Thank you for sharing and honoring each person you tell us about.
Another brave and humble man! The Vietnam war was the war of my generation, those who went fought more battles than most in WW2. The war was harder in that they didn't capture cities and ground. It was a war of body count. Yet those who went fought like hell and with great bravery but were despised by many when they came home. Never again!! Thanks Tara for great stories of bravery from all our wars and those who fought for our Country!
I'm always relieved to see the photos of these medal bearers wearing their medals: they survived to stand for the honor. Thank you, Tara, for telling their stories.
For most of those we read about, I feel this is what they all do - "You can talk about heroism all you want,” he concluded, “but it’s just a matter of swallowing that big lump in your throat and doing what you have to do.”. That is what Heroes do.

Only a hero is capable of "swallowing that big lump in your throat and doing what you have to do.”

Tank you,Tara.
Humble as always. The common theme among this group of individuals
I'm hoping that people will wake up and swallow the big lump in their throat this election and make America great again.
Just doing what he had to do…What humility! God love him! I think those he fought with that day certainly were glad to have him with them!
