I did not know of the powers of Nellie Taft. Her influence directed her husbands career and even support from a sitting President. However, Nellie decided, the citizens had the final vote and her husband, President William Taft eventually became what he wanted, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Thank you Tara.

It’s a sad commentary that it has taken me so long-in-life to pique an interest in our history. I continue to learn from your historical chronicles, and the thoughts and insights of others. Thanks, Tara, for being the current-day caretaker of our historical past.

Interesting post about a determined woman! As for her “helping” Wilson win the election...I don’t think so...seems the electoral spread was not even close, even if you add TR & Taft’s together 😉

I meant by pushing decisions that ultimately created a rift between Roosevelt and Taft (and thus the 3rd party run). If Taft had never been President, who would have been? And with his heart in it, would that other person have been a better President? In that scenario, I doubt TR would have jumped back in.
