George Washington said at the time, “if we desire to secure peace. . . , it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.” Such a simple concept. So many today have no idea.
George Washington said at the time, “if we desire to secure peace. . . , it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.” I guess that is where the term "peace through strength" originates.
Another great account of our history. My husband served in the Navy (Vietnam era). One son served in the Navy and one in the Marines (both were in Iraq and Afghanistan at various times). So to learn more about how the Navy was established and Marines helping out then it fading away until it was brought back in full force was exciting to me. George Washington understood the need for military power. As a strong leader he was able to convince others. “If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it,” George Washington said at the time, “if we desire to secure peace. . . , it must be known, that we are at all times ready for War.” Unfortunately this wisdom has been lost. We aren’t ready to defend and preserve our freedom and independence. We need strong and wise leaders. Where are they? Praying!
Yes, Happy Birthday to the US Navy. As a former Navy man, I am proud to celebrate the birthday of my branch of the Military. Thank you Tara for remembering this day.
Many of my family have served in the Navy and I am really proud of their service and all that the Navy has done to keep the USA safe. Happy birthday to the greatest of the great.
