The United States men’s hockey team defeats the Soviets at the Lake Placid Olympic Games. It was a much-needed morale boost, just when our country needed it most.
Boy, what a memory! I didn't know about Herb Brooks' training system but I do remember the feeling when this team bested the Soviets. This was as you say Tara, not the best of times for the American spirit. Vietnam left bad feelings among those of us who served, inflation, gas lines, high interest rates and unemployment high.
But, this game gave us back our spirit. Thank you Tara.
Reading this carries me back to that day. Oh how we were proud of that team and proud to be Americans! Sports are an under rated force for good for the individual, their communities and their countries when the motivation is something bigger than yourself. I long for those attitudes to return.
