We should always remember that love for others is the key to real living. Serve the world day by day, give of yourself to enrich the lives of those around you, even if it's just a smile.

Most people, maybe 99.99% of people would jump away from a grenade thrown in their midst. It is the rare selfless individual that jumps toward fatal danger. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" ~John 15:13

What an incredible young man. It’s great to hear stories about people who overcame racial divides and believed race didn’t matter. Milton Olive left a legacy more valuable than most people leave. By his actions (not necessarily his words) he proved that skin color was unimportant compared to the character of a man. Some of that credit must go to his father. Another good example of overcoming whatever is against us, Tara.

I believe that many servicemen of WWII having been exposed to Black service men had a different view of race than the generations before them. As they grew older society changed for the better.

Another great story of extreme bravery, no doubt those that served with Milton Olive saw first hand the content of his character and not the color of his skin. This story should be apart of Black history month, a true hero!!!

Skipper Olive made the ultimate sacrifice to save his brothers from other mothers, but they all became one in their hearts. There is no greater sacrifice than for one man to sacrifice his own life to save another in heaven or on earth just as Jesus died for us all. May his sacrifice show us all just how precious life is for all of us.

Thanks for sharing this story about Milton’s sacrifice. It reminds me of my friend Henry “Hank” Klinger who sacrificed his life to prevent the VC from overrunning our perimeter and saving the lives of myself and others. He didn’t get a MOH, he received a bronze star. He holds a place of honor in his family and my heart forever.
