Those serving in WWI were the examples the the Greatest Generation followed. They were the best and we would do well the learn and follow their lead today. Thanks Tara for an awesome MoH story this morning! πβ€οΈπͺπΊπ²
Ist Sgt Milo Lemert was definitely a hero and one man Army during WW1 when he took out several machine gun nests before being mortally wounded. His final words were erie, "I'm finished, boys, give them hell" a natural leader, Lemert gave his life for his country and his family. His Posthumous MOH was just and deserved. God bless you Sir and may God continue to bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.
In spite of what Lemertβs brother wrote to their mother Iβm sure she grieved and Iβm sure his wife did too. 100% agree that WW1 fighting forces were a great generation too. Perhaps we can honestly said that of every generation willing to sacrifice for our country.
Thank you, Tara, for another unheard of story, by me, of another hero who willingly gave his life for his fellow troops and his country! He charged in to save others!
Great MOH Monday, you are so right about the 1st generation of the greatest generation. I think the 1st generation inspired many in WW2! Thanks Tara!! Perhaps Sergeant York's story is next?
Hmm. I've told that story before, but it's been a while. I believe the anniversary of his action is sometime next week. Maybe I can do his story on Monday. :)
Without any regard for self, first he led by words and then by example. Charging machine guns ? I canβt imagine the bravery ! It would be interesting - and impossible - to track the generations since to determine what children were born to the parents of the men he saved. I sure many owe their existence to him.
My Grandfather was one those who fought in WWI. Unfortunately he was exposed to mustard gas and barbed wire field. He was lucky enough to have a gas mask at the ready and got it on before he breathed too much in. He continued fighting and brought several of his buddies back after the fire fight ended. As a marine he believed no man was to be left behind. He displayed his ribbons and Purple Heart proudly in his office in Eastland, Texas.

A remarkable story of a man willing to risk himself to protect his own men. Thanks, Tara!

They were the fathers & mothers that raised the greatest generation. They weren't exactly slackers. Thanks for another MoH story Tara!

Anyone who volunteers their safety to protect mine is a hero to me, even if they die in their sleep of old age.

Brave young man !! Thank you !!
Thanks, Tara! Amazing heroes from WWI and another great generation who laid down their lives and a great example for the next generation.
