Petty Officer Michael Thornton saved the life of Lt. Tom Norris on this day so long ago. But Norris would also later receive a Medal of Honor for his bravery in a completely unrelated conflict.
Thank you Tara. I always look forward to reading your MOH Monday story about true American Heros.
This story of Petty Officer Michael Thompson rescuing Lt. Tom Norris while engaged in heavy enemy fire is fairly typical of heroes doing superhuman things. But to save the life of Lt. Norris and a South Vietnamese soldier by swimming long distance to safety is more than amazing. And then for Lt. Norris to survive his ordeal and go on to earn his own MOH is doubly amazing.
May God continue to bless and protect our American Military and the United States of America. These stories renew my pride in being a former member of our military.
I read these stories and I remember how many have said,” I am not a hero”. To anyone who takes the oath, and serves faithfully, they did what was necessary to do what they promised. These men did the utmost and succeeded. Special consideration is due and the “ hero” term fits. Thank you Tara for keeping these examples in front of us so we all might see what makes our heroes great.
“I feel honored, but I’m not a hero,” Thornton later said. “This medal belongs to every man and woman who died serving their country. I feel honored to represent them.”
Betsy Tara Ross these SEAL stories always hit close to home. A high school classmate was killed on a training mission several years ago. God bless them all! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank heavens for Petty officer Thornton. Astounding American heroism!

"I am honored, but I'm no hero" ...so typical of a MOH recipient, brave and HUMBLE! Thank you for today's lesson Tara!! 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Wonderful story of true American heroism!
Awesome. Love reading these acts of heroism
"Belongs to every man and woman who fought for us ", typical response from these special heros. Salute to both Thornton and Norris.
Remarkable story made possible by remarkable heroes!

Amazing men. Amazing deeds. Humility in action.
It’s great to read a story about the brave navy seals who served us during the Vietnam war.
Thank you, Tara! ✌️

👍👍👍
Another great story about a Navy Seal who would not bow to gunfire to save a fellow officer. A very deserved MOH winner.
Men of Valor
Great story of two men helping each other. I love these MOH accounts. Not looking for honor, but certainly deserve the recognition.
