Another humble hero! He just did what he needed to do. I hope Phil got a Medal of Honor too. Sounds like he earned it too. It’s so hard to comprehend the courage of men like Fitzmaurice. They are greatly appreciated.
Wow! another story to take your breath away - Specialist 4c Fitzmaurice and his friend Phil fought bravely and against terrible odds but made it through. I guess you could say the adrenaline kicked in for sure when he jumped onto that third grenade, seemingly without a thought for his own safely as "he just did what he had to do". Thank you, Specialist 4c Fitzmaurice, for your bravery and concern for your fellow soldiers.
A great, great, moment for those (even sleeping) in combat. Always sleep with your
weapon within arms reach,. There is no such place as a "{safe zone" outside of
American soils.
Maybe those of us that sleep soundly in our (safe homes), need to read over this memory
of a Combat Veterans' worst nightmares.
Mr. Fitzmaurice took no thought of his own life or safety of (self). It was an automatic reaction
to danger to his barracks comrades.
His Medal of Honor should be worn around his neck everyday, so that he might re able to relate his story of "do unto others, as you would have them do for you."
Thank you, Tarta, for helping to spread the Gospel of Freedom to America.
Amazing how humble those MOH recipients are as they all seem to be doing the job. We see them as heroes and the world owes them so much for all they and others do in our Military. Thank you Tara.
Shaking hands with, or listening to their story firsthand, are priceless bits of our American history. What a blessing.
Can you imagine being wounded and fighting on? It must be instinctual to some, but knowing survival might come off the table is where MoH nominations come from. Wow!
Thank you Tara. Another Hero who was just doing his job. God bless Michael Fitzmaurice and all who have served or serve. God bless the United States of America.

I hope young people still have this courage and sense of duty!
These stories of their overwhelming sense of duty fills me with pride in the military forces that protect us. Thanks again, Tara!
