Remember. Their sacrifice makes your life pleasant compared to what it would be without them. Live in honor of them and the ultimate sacrifice made by the One who gave Himself for us.
Thank you for the brief history of Decoration Day --> Memorial Day. And ending it with a another great quote from President Regan was perfect! Thank you, Tara Ross.
That it most likely began in the South seems reasonable - the percentage of dead was much higher, the loss to communities as a whole more painful (this does not diminish the pain of solitary losses on either side). Many remains never returned home to the South (hence the need for memorial monuments).
Thank you Tara. My Maternal Grandmother, who was born in the 1880's and who had relatives who died in the Civil War, told me about Decoration Day being a remembrance of the fallen from that War.
It seems to me that people of the Greatest Generation were those who made Memorial Day observation more of a special event than it seems today. My parents decorated many graves on Memorial Day and especially all of their family members.
As a child, we would travel several hours to purchase large quantities of Peonies that we would sell for Memorial Day observance.
A day to remember those who gave all for our country and freedoms, Sad that many today confuse/merge Memorial Day with Veterans Day the two are not the same. Each deserve to be remembered for their service, but Memorial Day is for those who served and died in service to our country in all wars and conflicts.
Memorial Day is a most important day set aside to remember and honor our fallen heroes. We owe our freedom to those brave military members who gave their lives. We live in a wonderful country that produces so many great warriors willing to fight for a nation that relies on them to keep us safe. Many have lost their lives. Thankful for each one. On Memorial Day the whole country honors them and their families who also sacrificed. Perfect post to start this weekend, Tara.
A lot of us signed the line on that check. Many of us had that check cashed. They are forever young in our memories with their youthful expressions. We should remember them and honor their memory not with just a holiday to commemorate them, but with lives that will honor them and the precious ideals of freedom.

Amen!
