Tara, your last sentence in your message today speaks volumes. A very wise and learned comment to be sure. Woe that every person in the service of our Country regardless of their position could read, understand and realize the importance of what you have written today could be the Very lesson that saves the United States of America. With my humble gratitude I thank you.
Contrast the Founders' appreciation of education and historical research with the criteria selected for today's admission to Congress: Experience not necessary; denial of science and medical knowledge preferred. This is truly the path to the bottom. Our Republic is no guarantee. It also was overthrown by tyrants as was Greece, perhaps during it's golden age was the finest in history. Almost everything from that period we admire today was refined then, from philosophy, architecture, plays, and, of course, democracy. As Franklyn said: "We have a Republic, if we can keep it."
Tara, I always learn something new from your posts and today is no exception. I don't believe that I knew that Jefferson was in France providing books to Madison during the forming of our Constitution. His help to Madison is immeasurable and while he wasn't present, Jefferson s involvement was critical to the forming of our government. Thank you so much Tara.
I agree that we dismiss the hard work of our founders at our own peril.
Your articles are uniformly entertaining, educational and inspiring.
We owe so much to these Founders of our Republic and much of what they accomplished, especially the Constitution itself, and it all does seem miraculous, given the deep rooted differences within the Colonies. The fact that Jefferson was in France and not in America would normally be viewed as problematic to the final results of the Convention, but his sending these rare books from Europe to Madison appears to be Divine intervention, as they enlightened and empowered one of our country’s key creators. We are so blessed in America to have this gift of our Constitution passed down through so many generations. We must seek to uphold it and not surrender to the passions of the moment that try to circumvent or trod upon it.
So many want to change our form of government, some through ignorance, others through malice. We must stand guard over our Constitution and the founder's precepts that were indeed a miracle. Praising God for His guidance.
Only took politicians 200 ish years to put a major hurt on these statements. "This conclusion led delegates to propose separation of powers and checks and balances in their new Constitution, as you may know. Most power is left to the states—or to the people themselves! Super-majorities are required for some actions. And we have an Electoral College. The Founders’ goal was to ensure self-governance, even as hurdles are thrown up, preventing bare or emotional majorities from tyrannizing everyone else." Most if not all are damaged today. Thanks Tara for the lesson, the quote and your precious time.
There are 27 amendments to the Constitution. The 28th is in dispute and, of course, the 18th was repealed by the 21st. It is time we took a second look at the Electoral College as it results in disenfranchising more and more citizens.

My sentiments exactly 💯 👌 👏

Too many people don't understand the Constitution. They think it has to change with the whims of our society.
Tara .. thank you! You have done it again.

DId not know that Jefferson was not present!! However, he being in Feanc became a blessing in sending so many books for those in the states.

Look, but don’t touch...
#17 should be repealed. Make Senators protect the state's rights as the Constitution provided.
Outstanding! Madison is my favorite founder. His influence exceeds Jefferson’s. Although, we do spend money like Jefferson.😁
It would be wonderful if people understood what a democracy actually looked like compared to our Republic.

Thanks for sharing ❗️👍❤️
As is happening right now. Our Constitution has essentially been scrapped, at least ignored in the present day.
I’ve commented before that the Constitution is the greatest document known to man...
Wow how far our government has fallen from the constitution speaks volumes! Thank you Tara 😊
