The Louisiana Purchase, here, and then Seward's Folly in 1867 (just 2 years after the end of the Civil Way) - both had truly huge impact on the United States of their time and continues even to today. Thank you, Tara Ross, for helping us remember key moments of history!
The bargain of the century. I'm sure that $15,000,000 was an enormous sum in 1800 but what is the value of $15,000,000 in today's money? Still a bargain, I'm certain. A doubling of territory, control of the mighty Mississippi, elimination of Spain or France as Western competitors and so many other positive reasons for the acquisition of the Louisiana purchase. Thank you Tara.
I had not considered all the political implications during that time and am grateful that you brought those forward, Tara. The question to follow, for me, is did this impact the events leading to the War of 1812? After all, England capitulated in that mostly because of its war with the other Europeans, specifically France. Such machinations!
The Americans got a good deal with the Louisiana Purchase almost by chance. James Monroe and Robert Livingston had to act quickly. They had to move fast. So they took the opportunity and made the decision. Providence was on their side. America grew exponentially in land and in strength. Was it the art of the deal even way back then? Great part of our history, Tara!

I've stood in the room in New Orleans where thee deals were finalized....
I'm convinced that the Louisiana Purchase was one of God's greatest blessings to the fledgling United States.
Agreed, Richard! That and Seward's Folly impacted so much of where we are today!

Oh, to be a fly on the wall listening in for those discussions with Livingston, Munroe and the French negotiators!
Monroe and Livingston help our country grow and also protect itself for centuries to come. Thanks Tara for an awesome lesson. 🙏❤️💪🇺🇲
The vision was manifest destiny and a country from coast to coast!!
Sometimes we forget how much land was involved in the purchase. Until you look at the map and realize how massive it was.
Thank you Tara for all you do. 🙂
Thank you, Tara, for an amazing accounting. Such a deal!
Happy Hippity Hoppity Hump Day Tara Ross!😉💯🇱🇷🏴☠️❤️😜
Thank you, Tara.
