As an aside from your great history lesson, I came across a video on YouTube of a living witness to Lincoln's assassination that appeared on an early Television game show; " I've Got a Secret."

To think that a living individual, a witness to that incident from the year 1865 would be able to be recorded on live television still seems unreal.

Booth, unwittingly, caused a terrible situation in the South with this act. Johnson completely botched any reformation of the South and caused irreparable hatred that lasted for generations. Lincoln would have been able to bond the nation together with leniency and thoughtfulness.

A very sad account of a tragic event in our history. Booth not only assassinated the President of the North but also sent the South on a path of despair. Although President Lincoln had serious objections to the South's culture he was compassionate towards the South. He would have seen that they would have been treated fairly after the war.

A tragedy in many ways, not the least of which was fueling the desire for revenge by the north resulting with the years of reconstruction. The war was still fought in places, Lee only surrendered the Army of Virginia.

It always makes me sad when I read about President Lincoln’s assassination. It’s a reminder that evil is just as real as good. Since Kennedy’s assassination we have become much better at protecting our presidents. Reagan was a close one.

History “ suggests “ how to deal with radical elements like Booth and His co-conspiritors bent on insurrection and destruction of our Union ….

Do WE have the same commitment to save what they paid such a high price to maintain and pass along to us ? “A house divided cannot stand “.

The penalty for insurrection has been made clear …

So sad that Lincoln was unable to serve as president after the horrific war and contribute to the healing of America 😔🇺🇸

While not perfect of course, I believe that President Lincoln was one of the best Presidents in our history. Had succession been allowed to stand, would we be the United States today?

Thank you Tara.

To bad he wasn’t killed in 1861. Would have saved a lot of lives.
