Little did the people of Boston know that “the Liberty Affair” was on the horizon—and it would catapult John Hancock into nationwide prominence. "I will not be a slave," he concluded.
Thank God for men like John Hancock who were capitalists and demanded the freedoms of other free people. His ship Liberty was siezed by the British, further setting the stage for future mutiny against the British King. Thank you Tara.
The "Liberty Affair" almost seems so small an event, in our history. Yet it was a another small domino that led to the Revolution. Hancock, originally with no interest in politic(k)s changed his mind, and with good reason. That others that were not directly involved with his experience were just as incensed by the matter, showed growing resentment and frustration with the politic(k)s that lead to the matter.
If one is in business for one's self, one needs to be involved in politics. Especially in this day and age! Thanks for this historical insight, Tara Ross!
Yep! To much dismay I had to get involved. I was shocked that my mere, small, seemingly insignificant business was an early target of the government's to shut down. I was also surprised by how much of an impact it made on America as I know her. Small business is necessary.
The British in the end got exactly what they deserved and even to today, their Monarchy has never been as powerful as it was before the American Revolution. ❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I think often of the Revolutionary times. John Hancock in particular because we really just wanna be left alone to run our businesses, (mom and pop shops) raise our kids, go to church, tithe our money, and help our neighbor. Like they, we are being forced into a situation where we must get involved or we lose our life that we've built. I'm so VERY THANKFUL for those such as John Hancock who set a precedence for us to follow. Their bravery is contagious. I've changed banks, shop local and small, gave up some things that I didn't want to because of their values, and COMPLELETLY CHANGED MY MEDIA to independent sources. Thank you, Ms. Ross, for being one of those independents who remind us of values and courage. Truly, thank you.
“But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government.” (Declaration of Independence)🇺🇸
What an amazing time in our history! Imagine, John Adams as your defense attorney! Our great Declaration signers were involved in almost every important event leading up to our independence!
Politics and business! Still intertwined today. Some of this is new to me, but I do remember the Stamp Act. The Liberty Affair is not familiar. I always learn something new from your posts, Tara.
It's amazing how politics and business can influence each other, even till this day!
There's nothing quite like infringement on one's PERSONAL rights to invoke a participation in "politicks"!!!! Lol!

Thank you, John Hancock, for for helping display the tyranny of the British Empire at that point in history!
Thank you, Tara, for another little known story of our nations history!

We have to remember those words “I will not be a slave”. 🇺🇸🙏🏻
