I did some googling and discovered Ken Stumpf was born in 1944. HE WAS ONLY 23 YEARS OLD WHEN HE PUT THE LIVES OF HIS MEN AHEAD OF HIS OWN SAFETY. The site also said he died 4/22/22 in Wisconsin. What a hero.

Yes, I didn't realize he passed over the weekend until this morning.... I was already planning to run his story. Sad news.

Mr. Stumpf certainly overcame his fear as he rescued his injured men and single handed, engaged the enemy in Audey Murphy fashion.

His typical MOH honoree statement was that he was just doing his duty is not surprising. Mr. Stumpf was a true American Hero and I am so proud of how he faced his fears and converted them into such brave action. God bless Mr. Stumpf and the United States of America.

Wally, while researching this recipient, I discovered the online "The Congressional MOH Society" website. I just listened to Ken Stumpf's oral history, it was awesome. Also, correction, he died yesterday. Just thought I'd pass along the site info.

The valorous will always say, "I was just doing my duty. I'm no hero." I've known some, and I treasure their friendship.
