I wasn't really aware of the euthanasia of retired military dogs and l wasn't aware of the story of Dustin Lee and his parents efforts to get his dog Lex and get an adoption program started. God bless the family and all of the service dogs who have lived thanks to this program. Thank you for your sacrifice for our country Corporal Lee, and thank you to all who serve or have served.
Just a wonderful outcome for Lex & the family. Having lost my youngest brother at the tail end of Desert Storm it’s these things that make the best memories. Just don’t know why it had to go so high up for a decision.
So sad that Corporal Dustin Lee lost his life, but what a beautiful account of his faithful dog Lex. What a beautiful dog wearing his Purple Heart. Dogs are such amazing animals. Man relies on them for many things. My dad gained freedom after losing his sight because of guide dogs. On several occasions they saved him from injury or death. So glad there is a plan in place for military dogs when unfortunate events happen. They deserve a good and safe retirement. I’m sure Lex has provided a lot of comfort to Dustin’s family through the years as well as many other great dogs.

I’m still trying to get over the fact that dogs from the Vietnam era were euthanized or abandoned! Who the hell was in charge of that? That was so incredibly shameful!
