Thank you Tara. I sometimes nearly forget that what we are currently going through isn't new to our government and our history. It does remind me that the republican form of government is very messy and difficult, as it was designed.

Further, legislators will write and pass unconstitutional laws, only to see them found unconstitutional by the Judiciary. If the government isn't totally basterdized, it should eventually be able to accomplish reasonable governance, staying within the Constitution.

It appears that the Circus also referred to as the Congress is the longest running circus in the history of the USA, as it is still going strong today. It’s quite sad that those people known as Congress men & women have forgotten that their purpose is to lead in a manner which is in the Best Interest of our Nation.

I had heard of Johnson's , but not the details (or I forgot). Thanks for reminding me. The reminder seems especially appropriate in today's world. It shows politics have always been a bit of a circus. Although today it's more of a clown show.

I had never looked into this bit of history before and it sounds distressingly similar today. Praying for God's leading in this most "interesting time"--I feel sad we must live through it.

In other words, the more things change, the more they stay the same. I have read a book on Truman that told the story of his re-election efforts. The name calling has not changed in almost 80 years. From this story, it would appear even more is still the same. Could the common denominator be the human condition?

🇺🇸 Had not really known why President Johnson was impeached. Thanks for filling in the details.

Now, why do I have this strange sense of deja-vu? 🇺🇲

Thanks for the lesson.

“I cannot agree to destroy the harmonious working of the Constitution,” explained Republican Senator James Grimes of Iowa, “for the sake of getting rid of an Unacceptable President.”

These words could have been spoken any time in the past 8 years.

I didn't remember this from history class so long ago. It is always insightful to read these snippets from history. I wish more people knew our history better. Every time I hear someone say this is unprecedented, I always pause and think is it? Probably not most of the time. Thanks Tara!

Seems like the more things change the more they stay the same. It’s interesting to observe how our government works. It’s not easy or without errors. After all it is run by human beings who are prone to the frailties of human nature. You would hope they’d be guided by their better judgment, but unfortunately they, like all humanity, often make decisions based on their own personal preference and biases. This was another example of pieces of history not taught.

I'm hoping this means you're going to do a Grover Cleveland story before November! 😉
