Texas has their share of heroes. It’s always great to hear about another courages Texan. John Kane lived to be 89 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Love your MOH Monday stories and the occasional bonus ones. It’s always a good start to the day.

We that read this narrative can never truly appreciate what those men went through. But we can remember them, and we should.

I’m a volunteer docent at The American Heritage Museum in Hudson, MA. Colonel John Lane’s Medal of Honor is on display in our museum. It was donated by his family.

Flying over and through enemy anti aircraft guns is terrifying. Only those who were there to bomb Polesti would understand. God bless them all. Thanks to Col. Kane and his group.

Daylight bombing took its toll, but hitting the oil fields was necessary as the later years proved, tanks running out of fuel in Africa and aircraft grounded all through Europe. It took extremely brave pilots and crews to make that possible.

Colonel John R. (Killer) Kane was the bomb group leader of American bombers who raided German controlled Romanian oil refineries in Operation Tital Wave.

Col. Kanes MOH was awarded due to his diligence and perseverance to reach the target when it obviously meant extreme danger to him, his crew and his whole bomber group. His raid was successful even though he lost much of the aircrafts components and had to land in an unplanned location.

It is amazing to imagine 180 B-24 bombers flying 1,000 miles, at very low altitude and with complete radio silence. And also, the enemy was aware that the attack was coming. Against all of those odds and difficulties, the bombing was successful. Yes, this Nation's highest award was warranted for this important mission. How it was determined who, among this huge group of aviators would receive the MOH remains a mystery to me. Perhaps you have the answer, Tara? Thank you Tara Ross, for another MOH Monday.

I don't know! Some of it likely had to do with who witnessed what, since witnesses are required for a MOH. I'm sure many men deserved the Medal but didn't get one.

That makes sense. Thank you Tara.

Cane was a determined warrior. He knew the risk was high with every mission, but he certainly did not allow it to deter his mission that day! His resolve and stamina is inspiring to me today even after he is long gone. Thanks, Tara!

I've heard of this mission, but little about the heroes who made it happen.

Thanks, TR!
