Great story of intrigue and a good example of why we need to think about what we read or hear in the news. We have had some some false patriots of our own in most recent times. Things are not always how they appear. Easy to have a jaded eye these days.
Washington knew the value of intelligence from his experience in his earlier service. Historical evidence of his network in New York City is evidence of that. Why should one be surprised by this? He was a man of wisdom beyond his years, of impeccable integrity, and of pureness of motive. He took his sacred honor very seriously. I would have hated to have been his enemy! Great story, Professor! It isn’t a wonder, but I don’t remember this one!
This so interesting! I never knew about this spy. It seems he was real because Washington’s actions and the outcome show he had valuable information and the Hessians did not. Throughout history spies have played an important part in victories and losses. Honeyman and other patriots like him are truly heroes.
John Honeyman and George Washington colluded to give the Americans an advantage. A brilliant one at that.
I presume that Mr. Honeyman was rewarded in some fashion for his efforts. Perhaps the towns people thought better of him after the American victory? Thank you Tara.
Washington grew tremendously as a strategist and a commander. To face overwhelming odds and to endure massive failures while never letting these deter his resolve is a trait that must have been instilled into him by our Creator. He was the right man at the right time.
Intelligence gathering has long been a major factor in power struggles...the activities of the best spies I suppose are never known...or at least not known for a long, long time...🤔🇺🇸

Fascinating! Didn’t know this part of the story. Thank you for shedding light on this important event.
Betsy Tara Ross my cousin at the NSA says the general public will never know anything about what they do everyday! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Makes sense to me.
