“This is not mine,” he would later say of the Medal. “I hold it in trust for those I served with, for those who gave their lives.”

Incredible. Sgt Hawk, Thank you, sir. May you rest in eternal peace.

And thank you, Tara Ross, for sharing this wonderful American citizen with us.

Mr. Hawk was one brave man to direct friendly fire at his own position in order to knock out an otherwise invisible enemy. Typical of the MOH awardee, he felt that the honor was not his, but to be held in trust for those who gave their lives and for those with whom he served.

Another of the Greatest Generation. Thank you Tara for another MOH story, on a Tuesday.

A good week for Metal of Honor recipients posts. It’s amazing to hear how clearly Mr. Hawk and others like him could figure out what they needed to do and did it. Like others before him he counted it a privilege to hold the MOH for all he served with and those who gave their lives.

"Citizen soldier"......'holding the MOH in trust for the men that died'. Those two comments sound like humility, which is what so very many of the MOH awardees display. Hawks was and is truly an example of determination to do the task assigned to him.

Another tale of heroism in the face of death and humility in the face of his being awarded his Medal of Honor!

What a hero this man was for all time!

Thank you, Tara, for another unheard of story!

Awesome story of a very brave hero, who loved his country, and comrades in arms, more than his own life.
