Once again, a soldier doing "his duty", but so far above and beyond the call. RIP, SSgt Crews. Your bravery lives on in our hearts and in the heart of each American fighter.
I love Mondayβs Medal of Honor stories but todayβs is special being an Oklahoman it gives me pause. John J Crew was the standard all of us should look to. This past Saturday, I attended my first District meeting of the American Legion & American Legion Auxiliary to see our men & women who served & are still serving is impressive. If you get an opportunity go check out your local post. They are still on duty for God, Country & Family.
SSGT John R. Crews was a reluctant hero who responded to President Truman about where he got the courage to fight like he did. "I learned at home that you do everything that you're told. I saw no difference in my military orders."
Mr. Crews was another of the Greatest Generation who just did what he believed he was just doing his duty. An amazing American Hero, worthy of the MOH.
Another hero who didnβt think of himself as one. Humility is always an outstanding attribute of a real hero. Crews didnβt think he would survive, but he did what he believed he needed to do without hesitation. Glad he received the MOH in person and not posthumously.
MOH Monday once again confirming why it's called the greatest generation. RIP SOLDIER! Thank you Tara π πππππ―π―πΊπΈπΊπΈπΊπΈπΊπΈ

Always great to read your Medal of Honor Monday stories. Now I get to look forward to Tuesday to read the continuing saga of Benedict Arnold. π

What a remarkable manβ¦to face certain death to do what needed to be done.
These are great people! I'm glad they finally talk about their experience before it's lost. Everyone ought to know!

Americaβs finest
Thank you, Tara.
Another story of incredible bravery without thought of his own safety.
Are there any men like this still around?
Good question.
I believe that any time someone puts on a uniform to do a job that protects us has the potential to be that type of hero. Man or woman.
Thank you Mr. Crews!
So enjoy MOH Monday. These are are real heroes. Sharing this is always good for everyone. Thanks Tara.

His entire rationale for his actions, found in his statement. "It was something that someone had to do, and I did it".
Yet he also let it be known that he didn't expect to live, either. Such was the mindset of another MOH awardee.
