Every MoH Monday is more incredible than the previous one. Insurmountable odds, but Johnny led his team to victory. Against bigger numbers, but his was the superior force. And yes, two that served from the Greatest Generation. My late father-in-law IS a Marine and served at Iwo Jima . . . I’ll always regret not encouraging him to tell me stories from his service.
A great story of total dedication to our Country, the men in his command and a woman he loved. This is a story they could make a movie of, but instead it is real life. A man who was awarded a Medal of Honor for his courage and sacrifice and the Navy Cross the same plus his life. RIP Gunny Sargent Basilone and his bride Leana. You both deserve it.
A beautiful story of one of our many American patriots. It’s a love story too! Love of country, love for fellow Marines and the love of his life. It’s always sad when our hero ends up dying in battle. His bride obviously kept his memory alive. Both of them part of the greatest generation.
SGT Basilone is a real definition off an American hero. The MOH was not his apex in life and he still wanted to serve. What humility and love of country he exhibited. We remember men such as he with gratitude and the deepest respect. Thanks, Tara Ross, for sharing his story. What a dedicated American and what a dedicated wife!
I saw his (and other Marines) story on the show "Pacific" on Netflix it was quite the series with the end showing the men who served! Great story Tara!
Every American should read the incredible stories of our American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice. We are free today because of them. I only hope and pray that future generations will bear this responsibility as they did...............
I was reminded of John Basilone frequently as I would pass the off-ramp to the Parkway that was named after him near Camp Pendleton. Thank you John Basilone for defending your men and your country!
What a Great story of heroism in the face death!
Over and over again Basilone went “out there” to help his fellow troops and win the battle!
Nothing was more important to Johnny than serving his country!
Thank you, Tara, for another story of a man who gave his all for his country!
Unflagging energy and unwavering loyalty brought victory to the Sergeant. His life was filled with determination to see victory, no matter the cost.
His portrayal in "The Pacific" was heart rendering, you kept hoping the outcome would change.

I always read your Medal of Honor Mondays with baited breath. I enjoy reading about the greatest generation and wish more men like them.
Emotional ending....
Miraculous that he survived Guadalcanal, bittersweet that he died in the last months of the war.
Thank you, Tara.

🇺🇸 A great example of two ordinary people, with a faithfulness and fidelity to something greater than ourselves. R.I.P. 🇺🇲
