Andre acted the part of a spy and received a spy's punishment. Not pretty, but expected. If the British had traded for Arnold there would have been a proper end to the story.

I tend to agree 👍

And now we know the rest of the story. I do have one question though. What ever became of Benedict Arnold and his wife and children.

What an ending! I can’t help but feel sorry for Andre’. Unfortunate circumstances led to his death. Even in this matter Washington was circumspect and thoughtful in making his final decision. I’m sure he wished things had been different with both Arnold and Andre’. Sadly Arnold lost his good reputation and Andre’ lost his life. You certainly made the most of this piece of history stretching it over several days, Tara. 😊

Interesting protocols for administering justice for spies and negotiations for prisoner exchanges. What a disappointment it must have been for Washington to learn of Benedict Arnold and his self serving schemes.

I wonder how Arnold was treated by the British after he became a British Subject. Am curious also about what became of Arnolds treasoness wife?

"He’d been denied his one request: To be shot like a gentleman, rather than hanged like a spy."

He had lost his gentlemanly status when convicted of spyly actions.

Spying is a risky business as Andre soon learned and also Arnold wasn't allowed in the British military for how could they trust him as well! Thank you Tara for all you do 😉😊

Sad ending for Andrè. He deserved to be shot versus hanging. Thanks Tara for this multi part story.

After binge reading all the stories again...I still have zero love lost for the Arnolds and a twinge of sadness for Andre. But things always look different when time separates us from the actual event.

War is a hard and nasty business and Andre knowing that, I suspect wasn't overly surprised at the outcome.

Would like to know how the traitorous couple fared in later years.

I love the way you stretched this story over several days Tara. The anticipation was great, but by having more space and time to write, much more detail was learned.

I have always had severe and bad feelings for Benedict Arnold and the details of your story have not made me feel any compassion for the man. To have lived the remainder of his life in England as a man of no country, doesn't lessen my feelings. George Washington must have been badly hurt by the actions of a trusted friend and General. Arnold deserved to be punished in real life but, his name shall always be synonymous with traitor.

Thank you Tara.

I’m sure With his narcissistic personality Arnold was able to gain a place in that society and his wife could “act” her way through the rest of her life.
