The Vietnam action was an embarrassment to our nation, not because of fighting it, but because of the leftist press and the communist sympathizers among us that wreaked havoc on our nation. Hanoi Jane was only one example of the crazies that lived among us--there were plenty others. Hooper is one example of the brave men who lived through that horrible war. Thank you, good sir, for your actions.

So many heroes from that war that never received their due honors.

It sounds like Mr. Hooper was made to be a fighter, a little like Ulysses S. Grant, who failed at a lot of things, but war drew out the best in him.

A wonderful story Tara. Thank you for sharing his tale of valor, courage, and heroism. Another Vietnam Veteran who carried the scar of feeling forgotten. WELCOME HOME AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

Most of the [quiet] heroes, were never lauded or given an ovation.

[Not that they wanted to be given medals,] but loved doing the small things

that allowed fighting men to succeed and keep marching forward.

I'm speaking of the wives and families that were (hopefully), waiting at home

to see their "hero" walking from the plane or ship, to give them hugs and love, again

It grieves me that, (even unpopular), the Vietnam war didn't allow American politicians

to learn from getting involved in the way, in which we did. We learned very little

about the enemies of freedom.

Communism is still a threat, and the [birthing] of the mentalities of Communism

are ignored in the minds of the socialist lions, even today. Socialism and Communism

are blood brothers. It doesn't take a PHD in history or psychology to understand that.

As long as evil persists to ravage our world, Heroes will be raised up.

God ordains peace and freedom.

Joe Ronnie Hooper became a man and a great fighting man during Vietnam. His bravery seems unimaginable but he accomplished much as a soldier and he received the MOH for his actions.

God bless men such as Mr. Hooper and God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara and thank you for another MOH story.

The most decorated veteran of Vietnam, only remembered - here. I was there. It was a different time. Thank the Lord for comrades like Hooper. And special thanks to you, Tara Ross, for keeping the memory alive.

A brave man who fought hard for his country and fellow soldiers, so sad that at that time we were an ungrateful and even hateful nation to those who served and especially those who gave all. I was a little to young to join the service during the Vietnam war but did know many who served and many were not the same. So sad! Thank you Tara for reminding us of the bravery of all who served.

The bright spot of the Vietnam War is the Vietnam Veteran who, despite being vilified and stigmatized by the press and the general population fought courageously and valiantly for our country whose political administrations prosecuted the war poorly. The legacy of the Vietnam Veteran is a complex one and poorly understood as they carried the baggage of bad political decisions. Thank you Joe Ronnie Hooper for your courage and bravery and representing your fellow Veterans by your actions in Vietnam.

Staff Sergeant Hooper was a legend in his own time even by Marines. While the General American people didn’t want to hear about Vietnam fighting men, those of us that served during the Vietnam War certainly read about the action while it was happening. Welcome home to all veterans, and thank you for your service. God Bless America!

I come from a military family and I hated that so many people were against the Viet Nam War and those who fought in it. Even if you couldn't support the war those men (and the women who also served) should have been respected and honored for how they defended our nation. Mr. Hooper was a very brave man and if not for him, how many more lives might have been lost? I hope he had a good life after the Army. I thank him for his service.

Honor the Soldier, complain about the Political that sent them to fight.

I enjoyed learning about Sgt Hooper. One in a billion that deserves all the respect and remembering we can offer.
