I wished more people would understand and acknowledge the mistreatment of Japanese Americans by our own government during this period in our remarkable history!
It’s so admirable that this young man didn’t see himself or his family as victims, but rather set out to prove his love and loyalty for his country. It takes strong character to do what Joe Hayashi did. He rose above the situation and earned the trust and respect of others. He’s a true American hero.
“A true hero”. ABSOLUTELY ! Why is it the bravest and most courageous put themselves at risk to save others with no regard for themselves ? It’s sad, he would have contributed so much at home. A truly fine young man.
What a remarkable soldier. His efforts made a huge difference and his love of country is inspiring. Thank you for sharing the story of SGT Joe Hayashi. Men of his mettle should be memorialized and celebrated as great examples of what they have done.
Joe Hayashi was an American man with something to prove. Japanese Americans were interned because of a question of loyalty to America instead of Japan.
I knew several Japanese American families when I grew up and I don't believe that I have seen or heard of more loyal people to the United States of America. The internment was a huge mistake and men like Joe Hayashi had something to prove.
Mr. Hayashi gave his life in fierce fighting for the country he loved, the United States of America. God bless Joe Hayashi and God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.
Tara, thank you for this beautiful story of loyalty, courage, and patriotism. I am sorry for his loss and also the actions taken against his family. A sad time, but, our history should always be taught and discussed to help our children learn and not repeat those same atrocities. As I look around the world, we haven't learned a thing.
The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was a phenomenal unit that participated in some of the hardest fights of the war. Reading its history and the courage of its men is inspiring.
Thank you Tara for helping me share this Hero's story. He deserves to be known and honored.
This country acts on fear at times. Not always is the fear justified. God Bless the Greatest Generation!

A true hero. Now I am waiting for the pedocrats to say he would not have died if he was vetted by due process.
This man knew what was morally right for himself and his family and America.
He earned the CMH. It was not an entitlement.
He sacrificed everything and we shall forever be grateful.
