Why did I choke up reading this? Probably because I felt that same patriotism in myself and I am moved by people like Jimmy Stewart who took the extra effort to help his country when he could have stayed home selling war bonds. The men and women of the Greatest Generation had what they make movies about. They gave themselves fully when called to help their country. Thank you Tara.

You’re forgetting a whole other generation that answered the call to serve our nation .

After 9/11 many troops shipped off to the Middle East to take care of the

“ Evil Doers “ (GWBs label) who attacked the Twin Towers , The Pentagon and crashed an airliner that was aiming to do damage in Washington DC .

Those troops ( all volunteers) could’ve spent an Entire 20 year career in intense combat in Afghanistan and Iraq serving our country as ordered by GWGump and Dick Cheney.

Those magnificent troops did So many actual days in combat in many multiple tours throughout the region it’s unbelievable. They saw more combat than any other generation in the history of our country because it lasted so damn long relying on a smaller group of ALL volunteer warriors .

They aren’t getting the respect that they’ve Earned ! They got Osama Bin Laden and knocked Saddam from power in Iraq … and , really , ultimately made Iran stronger by eliminating Iran’s natural , Hated enemy (Iraq ) in the process.

More than 20 years of combat with no draft or general mobilization of any kind . Unreal !

And we Still have troops in the region playing a smaller but still Deadly roles as advisers and in combat support missions - “ in harm’s way “ all over the region and the world!

Let’s not forget these brave folks who answered the call to arms and left our shores willing to risk ALL over there to protect us here !

🇺🇸🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸. 🫡. 👌

So many of the Greatest Generation held patriotism in high esteem! Their willingness to follow that belief led us into being the superpower we are today. Their children, we the baby boomers, have squandered that thought process and generated far too many offspring that want to hide in mama's basement, smoke dope and be nothing. Unless change comes, we are in real trouble!

Mark, I understand where you’re coming from but all is not lost. The country needs to hear the message of love, salvation & accept Jesus Christ as their Lord & Savior. Unless you acknowledge you’ve sinned & ask for forgiveness, accept that Jesus loves you enough to pay the ultimate price on the cross they will remain lost. The power of prayer is greater than any weapon of war. I prayed for you today, all that read Tara’s posts & for those that are blinded by sin. We are going to win.

This is extra special because of how famous Jimmy Steward was at the time. The fact that he wanted to serve and even go as far as combat without using his celebrity status says a lot about the character of this man. He was not just an actor in movies playing make believe, but he lived in reality. Excellent choice for Friday, Tara.

Brig. General James Stewart, was drafted to serve in the armed services. I read somewhere that he had a feeling that he would be called on to serve, so in the time before his service he decided to become a pilot to better his chances of getting into the air services. That latter choice worked out for him, and obviously he did well even the great personal cost to his psyche. He could have left the military at the end of thst war yet stayed on, subsequently rising through the ranks. I also read that he also flew in at least one mission during the Viet Nam war, gathering information their.

He was indeed an example of the "Greatest Generation".

Growing up in the 60s I loved watching Jimmy Stewart in westerns & “It’s a Wonderful Life” or just about any of his movies. He is one of a kind, no doubt. He is endeared to many of us & I didn’t know he remained in the reserves after WWII or he was a Brid. General. My dad always said he was one of the best. Now I know the rest of the story. Thanks Tara

Jimmy Stewart is one movie star I wish I could have met. From everything I know of him, he was a great, but unassuming man. I believe most of his performances reflect that.
