“We are awfully proud of him,” his mother said. “but feel fortunate in having him back. You know, I think the prayers helped. He had a lot of prayers said for him while he was over there.”
Much like those of the Greatest Generation who did not like discussing what they did, those of the Vietnam era don't like discussing it either. I must say, in conversations with those in the Iraq War and Afghanistan don't like discussing it either. They saw really disturbing stuff that changed them.
“He just figured he did what he was supposed to do.” The concern for other that drives this kind of man is pretty remarkable. It is more than just training - it is a characteristic.
Another wonderful story of one of our many heroes. It’s not surprising he had a supportive family and respected his country and fellow soldiers. Thankful he returned home and lived a full life.
A very humble man. His action was “Above and Beyond” but he just assumed he did what he was suppose to do. Perfect example of a MOH recipient. Thank you for your service.
So many heroes from the Vietnam war, but they were demoralized when they got home. Sad, but it's taken 60 years for many to realize how much they gave for our country. God Bless these great men and women. My husband is one who served 18 months there.

Another great American Hero, just doing what he had to do to save others. Thank God for people like him in this world. RIP Jim! You’ve earned it.

Every soldier ought to cover the grenade with his helmet! I guess it's extraordinary that he had the presence of mind to think about it!
Kinsman saved his fellow troopers from injury and death! He was a real hero who put others ahead of himself!!
He did much more than “what he was supposed to do” that day!
Thank you Tara!!
What presence of mind during combat RIP SOLDIER!
Thanks Tara 😊
Thank you for recognizing the brave young people that are the backbone of our country.🇺🇸
Thank you, Mr. Kinsman from a grateful Nation.
Good man!
