Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson were a great team. It took courage for both of them to enter into that agreement, but Jackie had the tougher part and earned the respect that he deserved.

Thank you for the post. Robinson breaking the color barrier in baseball did so much to address the issue of segregation in our society. A true trailblazer.

He was a very brave man! Many thanks to Jackie Robinson for his tremendous contribution to America! I am ashamed that my country ever got caught up in such bigotry because before God we are all the same. Thankfully cooler minds prevail and progress continues today and we must press on. Thank you, Tara Ross, for reminding us about this great man’s work!

This is a wonderful account of two men who knew how to make changes in a positive way. “Mr. Rickey, are you looking for a Negro who is afraid to fight back?” Rickey’s response was simple: “Robinson,” he said, “I’m looking for a ballplayer with guts enough not to fight back.” They made great changes and were very effective in how they did it. Have we lost the vital messages and examples left by these two men, MLK and others? The last sentence sums it up perfectly. When you are fighting for freedom every effort counts. Thanks, Tara, for this inspiring post.

Thank you, Tara, for another fine story of a person going against the grain and winning!

I have a video of the Jackie Robinson story and it fills in the Ins and outs of his struggle, not on the field but in the clubhouse and beyond!

Thank you, again, Tara!

Thank you Tara. Racial discrimination is impossible for me to understand. God bless all who peacefully educate against racism.

I pray for the day when race was not an issue. We are all equal and should be treated like equals.

Martin Luther King, Jr. perhaps said it best when he spoke to another black player who had joined the Dodgers’ roster: “You’ll never know what you and Jackie and Roy [Campanella] did to make it possible to do my job.”

When you are fighting for freedom, every effort counts.

Betsy Tara Ross I think Jack was a 4 sport letterman at UCLA. He had to be good enough to get called to play too. Don't forget that, because he was! I'll share and follow you anywhere!
