How can you not love a man like this? Yes, he was human and thought he was just doing what was needed. He was right about the many who did not make it home, but his actions speak to the character he possessed - doing what was needed to save the lives of others!

Sgt. Briles said; "that I only did what I had to do." He was awarded the MOH, yet didn't think that he did anything to deserve it. Yet even as he was dealing with malaria, he took action twice to save men from burning tank destroyers, with little or no regard to his own condition and safety. His actions truly showed the mettle of the man.

There’s no doubt Sgt. Briles was correct in stating that all who lost their lives are heroes, but it’s certainly true that he also is a hero and deserved the Medal of Honor. He went above and beyond his duty. It could have cost him his life. He saved four other lives by ignoring the risk to himself. The very definition of a hero.

Exactly Right ✅️ 👏 👌

These people who run towards danger the rest of us are fleeing will never consider themselves heroes, so long as anyone they serve with doesn't make it home.

Thank you Sgt. Briles. You are a hero. Certainly those men you pulled from those tanks think so.

Sgt. Hershel "Pete" Briles received the Medal of Honor for extreme bravery. He rescued injured soldiers on two consecutive days, saved equipment, caused 55 enemy soldiers to surrender and due to his actions, two American units reconnected. Oh, while suffering terribly from malaria.

Yet, he believed that he did only what he was supposed to do and that the real heroes were the ones who didn't return home. Spoken like an American Hero who was awarded the MOH.

God bless Mr. Briles and all who have received the MOH and all American fighting people who serve or have served this great nation. Thank you Tara.

“I wasn’t near as great as they make it sound,” Briles later told a reporter.

Heroes do come home, Sargeant. 🇺🇸

Thanks, TR!
