The 4th verse of our National Anthem says 🎶"Oh thus be it ever when freeman shall stand between their lov'd home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace may the heav'n rescued land Praise the power that hath made and preserved us a nation! Then conquer we must when our cause it is just, And this be our motto "In God Is Our Trust!"
And the Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave oe'r the land of the free and the home of the brave. "🎶
This quiet man loved his country so much that he laid down his life for it. He stood between "his loved home and the war's desolation" a true hero. May God bless his family and may Jesus hold him close in heaven.
Herbert K. Pililaau was brave beyond words. He volunteered to keep the enemy at bay while his company could safely retreat. He gave his life fighting, and he allowed his company to get to safety. This American soldier fought to the end and he received the MOH for his bravery. God bless you, Mr. Pililaau. Thank you for your sacrifice.
He served his country even though he didn't live in a State, but a territory of the United States.
May God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.
Don’t think I would have wanted to be the Captain who had to make the decision to let Mr Pililaau stick it out on his own. Nevertheless, Mr. Pililaau did his duty with bravery and courage.
This story goes deep into the heart. A godly young man with a heart of love for God, American ideals (even though not a state yet he must have had some strong positive feelings about this country) and an earnest care for others. His fellow soldiers would have had sorrow and admiration watching Pililaau giving his all to protect them. The Battle of Heartbreak Ridge is aptly named.
A hero runs towards the sound of gunfire not away from it. He did. A side note. No one earns a Medal of Honor nor wins a Medal of Honor. Pililaau was awarded the Medal of Honor. Semper Fi.
I served in the Army and was stationed at Camp Pililaau near the Korean DMZ in 1968. It was name after Herbert, who was considered a hero there. Sadly that camp is gone now and it has been converted to a park.
Greater love has no man than to give up his life for his friends. Herbert showed that love. RIP, sir.
Exactly 💯 💯 💯
Amen!

I was thinking the same thing.
Great Americans come from all over, from every philosophy!
Mark said it best. Brave, determined young man. RIP Sir!
This ought to be a movie!

He made the ultimate sacrifice for his brothers in arms, in service to his country. Definitely deserving of the MOH. ❤️
Rest in Eternal Peace Brother.
He’d saved his company, but it had cost him his life. Says it all! RIP Sir.

Just a small correction. Hawaii officially became America's 50th state on August 21, 1959, a month before he died.
🇺🇲 An American hero! Though it's sad this is the 1st time I've heard of him.
Thanks, TR 🇺🇸
