It’s always astounding how a man will put his own life on the line to help others. Harvey Barnum is one more person whose heroic actions resulted in many spared lives. It takes a strong courageous man to inspire others to follow his lead when the outcome is uncertain. Excellence in leadership!
Lt. Harvey Barnum exhibited his leadership and hi Esprit de Corps in his action that day as well as his continued support for his troops as he volunteered for more action. Congratulations for the MOH as well as your Silver Star, Purple Heart and other awards so proudly exhibited on your chest.
God bless the United States Marine Corps and men like Harvey "Barney" Barnum. His extraordinary acts of bravery earned him the MOH and undoubtedly, the respect of every one of his fellow Marines.
Though the description of the events leading to Barnum's nomination for the MOH is short, it does indeed show his dedication to his fellow Marines and their mission.
