Knowing his aircraft was in bad shape he still made his mission objective. Lesser men would have never started the engines. Incredible that he knew the potential and stepped up to the task. May Pease and his crew rest easy.
Everyone of these men + women from the greatest generation were made from the same mold ! Honor , Duty , Loyalty , Courage flowed in their veins !!! No wonder the enemy was terrified of the American Soldier + Sailor because they never surrendered they fought against all odds and held their heads high ! Thank. You. Tara this story of determination and dedication to duty was wonderful . All too often these men sacrificed themselves for others but that’s why they are great people !
Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday. This one is not only gruesome but unlikely. American Captain Harl Pease and a group of volunteers took a wounded B17 onto action, completed the bombing mission and took out a number of enemy Zeros before he and another crew member had to bail out. Unfortunately, they were captured by the Japanese and were beheaded after digging their own graves. God bless Mr. Pease and his crew. May God also bless all who serve or have served this great nation.
Another great story, but his crew and the crew member who died with him also deserved the MOH. They all volunteer for a mission that was extremely dangerous and they gave all for their country! Thank you Tara for the reminder that Freedom is never free!!!
Market Commons is a mixed use real estate development on the site of the former Myrtle Beach AFB. It is popular with tourists. To get there you drive down Farrow Parkway named for William “Billy” Farrow from Darlington County South Carolina. Lt. Farrow was a navigator with Doolittle’s raiders. Captured in China by the Japanese he was transferred to Japan and executed. The people back in Darlington County spent the war not knowing his fate. My mom was one of those left wondering until the end of the war.
The Medal of Honor recipients are in a class all by themselves. Unbelievable sacrifice! Captain Pease’s story has an especially sad ending. Except for the witness the full story wouldn’t be known. Thanks for sharing, Tara. It’s good to hear about these courageous and selfless people. True patriots.

Great story. Is there a connection with Pease AFB? He was a can do kind of flier. A type needed to overcome and make a difference.
Thanks Tara.

Thank you Tara for another great MOHM.
Most definitely went above and beyond the call of duty! May God rest their souls.
This story had an interesting twist for the ending!

Thank you, Tara.
I said his name.
Tara, what an incredible story of heroism and tragedy. Thank you.
Thank you Mr. Pease for your courage and bravery. I know it’s been a long time but I am saddened by the event of the death of him and his crew member.
