For those who are wondering about the location of the speech, the question has to do with where in the cemetery the speech was given. This morning, someone on Facebook sent me an interesting link about recent research, here: https://blogs.loc.gov/loc/2023/11/where-did-lincoln-stand-while-delivering-the-gettysburg-address/

Great blog! That was very interesting to find out where Abraham Lincoln actually stood during the Gettysburg address. And it’s nice to see they have a marker there now thanks again, Tara!

In my mind, this address is every bit as important as the Declaration of Independence. Both are so stirring to my heart and reminds me of the cost of freedom. We would do well to make this a study for all school age children, reminding them of our history.

I might not put it there, but I would put it right behind the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.

Probably one of the most famous speeches ever. Abraham Lincoln, an ungainly and rough looking man was an eloquent orator. In my opinion, Lincoln was the right man at the right time for the United States of America. God bless Abraham Lincoln and God continue to bless the United States of America. Thank you Tara.

Chicago Times at the time wrote about the Gettysburg address: “ The cheek of every American was tingle with shame as he reads this silly flat dish watery utterances of a man who has to be pointed out to intelligent foreigners as the President of the United States “. So much for the media then in 1863 and now! They don’t have the remotest idea or intelligence to what they are talking about then and in the present.

A great speech tht as a child in elementary school I was required to memorize. I truly believe today that our children should be taught to memorize this important short speech that really put the civil war in context. Thanks Tara for another great lesson!!!

The Gettysburg address is perhaps one of the most well known speeches given by a President or any politician. I had to memorize it when I was in school. It was a highlight of the hist classes. Wonder how many youngsters have even read it. Lincoln made every word count. An admirable trait among many he possessed.

I was in DC several years ago and saw that at the Lincoln Memorial. It brought tears to my eyes. The cost in lives of the Ciivil War was so devastating.
