The chaplain walked the talk every serviceman in the military and Christianity ought to be willing to emulate.

Always others first. That is the calling to service. Protect yourself, of course, but always others first. He lived the true life and at the resurrection will see his Savior face to face.

Commander George S. Rentz was certainly an inspiration to his crew aboard the USS Houston. He showed bravery and leadership in the face of extreme personal danger and, his faith gave him the courage to give his own life so another crew member might have a chance to survive. The Posthumous Navy Cross was a fitting award for a life well lived and given for his crew and his country. God bless you Chaplain and God bless all who serve or have served this great nation. Thank you Tara.

The selfless personal sacrifice of Chaplain Rentz was one of love and not just simple math. It was a means of God loving men through another man. Not the kind of love of personal pleasure, but the one of investing life in others. I’m so glad he was recognized and remembered. Thank you, Tara, for this touching story of a man of God.

This tugs at the heart. Such a true blessing to those he served with in both WW1 and WW2. Quietly saving another life at the sacrifice of his own. A great American patriot.
