“We’ve been so fortunate by the accident of birth to be Americans,” he concluded. “And, having had that good fortune, our primary duty is to make sure that this country survives and that we stay free. That ought to be the primary objective of every American, every day, for the rest of their life.”
This is the history our young people need to learn. Not that war is Grand, but that freedom isn't free and how to act with honor when things are tough.
What a man! George "Bud" Day was a man's man. I can't imagine the pain he endured as he resisted betraying the nation he was fortunate enough to have been born into and, his tough demeanor provided a wonderful example for his fellow captives. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.
God bless General George Day and, all who serve or have served this great nation.
So hard to read all that Brigadier General Day endured. It’s a testament to his character that he remained a proud America with a great love for his country. His desire for America to survive and to keep it free speaks loudly of an honorable and trustworthy man. Men like him are valuable. We could benefit from having more like him.
Thank you Tara for another true heros day story!! What these brave men endured we will never comprehend, but worse of all was their treatment when they came home..
Wow - what the POWs in Viet Nam went through - it is hard for those of us at home to really take in. I have read several books about them and marvel each time that they made it until the end of the war. Brig. Gen. Day had a great many reasons to give up with al the torture he suffered but he kept to his statement about "Return with Honor" and certainly did that. America can certainly be proud of him and all who serve with such determination. May many learn from him.
We cannot know the extent of torture endured by the POW’s but the strength of one man to sing the National Anthem in the face of death brought courage and instilled Honor in the men around him. Gen. Day is a hero and true inspirational leader. Thank you sir!
What a wonderful story of heroism. My heart goes out to his family. Thank you Tara for bringing this man to us and showing his sacrifice and devotion to our country. I wish more of these leftist understood the blessing of America.

Thank you another story of American exceptionalism.
Thank you for honoring one of the heroes of that tragic war. Heroes are heroes and we should be inspired by them all.
