Thank you Dr. Ross for this great two part narrative of the beginning of the Civil War. It is no wonder that in current times things escalate so much quicker than back then. I guess it was a civility to allow notice to Ft. Sumter of the impending battle. Interesting that the person deemed to fire the first shot backed out.

We should all take a cue from that individual, th perhaps think twice before pursuing something violent.

May God continue to Bless America πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ ❀

Such a terrible war. Brothers, fathers and cousins fighting a deadly war against their own flesh and blood. A civil war is anything but civil.

Thank you Tara for remembering the events leading to the beginning of the shooting war.

It seems they were pretty naive to the extend that one shot would go. Once fired there was no turning back. It was destined to become part of this nation’s history. Not a happy part, but still important in the final result. The struggle for a free united country has never been easy and it is never ending.

There is not much worse than brother fighting brother over such a horrible philosophy. I pray we don't come to blows over today's issues!

So many possibilities of avoiding war, reconciling and solving the problem. War should have been the last thing on Lincoln's mind. Whatever your beliefs on the war, I still have a problem grasping the idea of one state invading another.

More people need to understand that the war really was the result of Northern Agression.

I am reading the biography of Grant. How sad that the politicians were so certain it would not be bloody. The facts show us otherwise

"And the war came." Indeed it did and continues until this day in the minds of some that would like a do-over. :-(

This was a tragic war. Can understand each sides reasons to start the war but be it not for me to caste blame on either.

The bloodiest was ever fought by USA on USA soil. There were sides but in my heart we remained one true nation.
