I reckon the soldiers defending South Carolina had experience as small game hunters, and were familiar with knowing their targets before wasting valuable ammunition.

Thank you Tara. Victory like the one at Fort Sullivan in South Carolina must have been a significant morale booster for the Patriots. Outgunned and out manned, the Patriots were successful in retaining control of that unfinished Fort.

I learned about this battle when I was a lad in my school's "South Carolina History" class, which we were required to take. It's a great story--true, too!

I did not know that Fort Sumter was made of Palemto logs and sand. I can understand that would be very hard to damage readily!
