You’ve doubtless heard of Lindbergh’s feat, but you most likely haven’t heard of this Navy flight. Lindbergh’s trip might have been solo and nonstop, but it wasn’t the first trip across the Atlantic.
To be the first carries with it a special distinction but the experiences gathered along the way by the other planes were invaluable for future endeavors. Thank you Tara for telling the story of those that weren't "The First"
Wow. This plane doesn't look air worthy. The Navy/Coast Guard plane and pilots achieved a remarkable goal to fly across the Atlantic in 1919 to become the first to accomplish the feat. Thank you Tara for another history lesson and another story I hadn't heard of.
People forget the distinction that Lindy hopped across solo Betsy Tara Ross! This is amazing too!
Who were the 2 private aviators to win the cash prize?
Very interesting story about this accomplishment by the Navy and Coast Guard.
Another history nugget most of us never heard. Thanks, Tara!
I don’t ever remember hearing this story before! Thank you, Tara!!
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
