Every person's view of God is distinct and personal. To demean that in any way is, IMO, a detriment to our nation's freedom. We should encourage each other in that worship, but not infringe on each other's right to worship as we see fit.

President Washington did it correctly. A lesson for those in Congress today and the future. Thanks for the book suggestion. As always, thank you for the lessons.

The Founding Fathers sure did a lot of thanking and praising God to not be Christians! (Why is there no font for sarcasm?)

God bless the United States of America and, may we attempt to relearn, and practice, the Founders intent regarding our Constitution, including all of the Bill of Rights.

May President George Washington's proclamation regarding Thanksgiving be remembered and adhered to this Thanksgiving.

Thank you Tara.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.....”

All of the arguments regarding questions of the Constitution seem to stem from the ever changing definitions given to words. In this case the word religion. It is always important to consider the founders original intent of the meaning and definition. It is impossible to apply current cultural definitions to a word, imposing a modern day definition on a word intended for the definition in the context of the time it was written.

Thank you Tara. I have read so many times that our Founding Fathers were not religious. Yet, if one reads history, they will see they were religious in their own way. Our freedoms from from that basis and a thorough reading of the Constitution confirms that. Thank you for the insights you give us!

Another great historical event and a wise opinion from you Tara. I would be wise in these trying times for ALL of our legislators to seek Gods guidance in all that they say and do. I’m sure if they were sincere in their actions and request the solutions would be far greater than what they are coming up with today.

Washington knew, better than anyone, what a great diversity of religion existed in the new country. Have we forgotten this??
