Looking back we can see the outcome and the eventual victory of our countrymen, but at that time everything was in question, much the same as with our entry into both world wars. Today we fight amongst ourselves for the very life of our Republic. Who will prevail? Only by constant vigilance and action will we be able to stave off and even conquer the monster that is communism. Stay strong, patriots!

So true. Our history is replete with stories of courage and bravery of fighting the battle against tyranny. How will history record our current day battle against the same. Will we be known for our courage and bravery or known as appeasers and compromisers.

Reflecting on what these Patriots did to create America, I wonder if we could again muster the will to fight tyranny here in America…

Oh the suspense. Tara, the war waged back and forth, the British securing a moral victory at Freeman's farm that cost much British blood but the second battle of Saratoga was weeks away.

Yes, the Americans were fighting for much more than 6 Pence per day, they were fighting for their future, their freedom, their Independence. Thank you Tara for another history lesson. It is imperative to remember that the two sides in the Revolutionary War were fighting for much different objectives. One side for the King, the other, for their freedom and independence.

The objectives made all the difference.

Pyrrhic victory for the British! The War for Independence was a long one, though. Fortunately, we know the outcome!

I love these Revolutionary war battle stories, Morgan in the woods with his men were deadly and the British thought it crude and cowardice. Keep these stores coming Tara!!!

As is in any war there are always ebbs and flows. What seems to be victory one day will be a loss the next. Fortunately for the young America the final victory for our future was Victory. Alas we have continued to fight other Wars since then and have come out Victorious for the most part. When we failed it wasn’t a war fought for our freedom but for other countries freedom and they were guided by politicians not Generals. (Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan) just to name a few.

Now we may be entering into another political war but for a different reason. It will be for our own future of freedom once again. Be prepared and make the right decision in the ballot box, but prepare for violence no matter the outcome.

God save America!!!

Excellent analysis of our involvement in wars and what made the difference in outcome. It never goes well when politicians are calling the shots. Let’s pray we can win the internal war that is waging right now.

Gates had a point, but so did Arnold! Perhaps reinforcements would have helped the Continentals to hold their ground, but their goal was accomplished in stopping that advance. The British could not further their movement in that direction without a great cost. Gates was not known for aggressive movements and was willing to take advantage of a good defensive position. Arnold wanted to take the fight to the British. Thanks, Tara, for another great insight into the American Revolution.

Fighting for freedom is a huge motivator and often underestimated by the enemy. Thank goodness that not everything to everyone is about money. The American fighters had strong leaders to follow. Some mistakes were made, but overall the fight was executed well. Good old Benedict Arnold was involved in a near disaster. So much to learn from our history.

Tara ..what a terrific recounting of this important Revolutionary War battle about which I knew so little. That marvelous quote about our troops fighting for much "more than 6 pence per day" is also a new one for me. How accurate, much like the Ancient Greeks vs. the Persians. That fighting spirit for freedom waxes and wanes, with the latter dominating today; we must reach deep into our psyches to reawaken such energy and commitment whenever we realize these hard fought freedoms are at risk of erosion, while ignoring the blandishments of politicians and talking heads assuring us otherwise. Thank you again for sharing these true tales of valor and persistence - it would be great to have them in the historical curricula of middle schools across the nation!

Interesting that the Brits were amazed at the American bravery. I see the difference being that our ancestors were fighting for their own freedom and land while the Brits and Germans were not.
