The concept of the constitution was a good one and if it had been faithfully followed we wouldn’t be in the predicament we’re in today. I have no doubt the founders would be shocked and dismayed to see how big and powerful the federal government has grown and how much of the people’s freedoms have diminished and some have completely disappeared. We not the country they envisioned and sought to secure. 💔

As Ronald Reagan once said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”. The original plans and intent put in the hands of politicians, and viola! we have today. Thank you so much Tara.

He would say, “I gave you a nice Constitution and you screwed it up!”

For the one great that the Civil War accomplished (ending the evil of slavery) it also accomplished ending our constitutional republic. Once the federal government asserted, and then by force proved, that the states are subservient, the Republic was essentially over.

It was more suicide than murder, however. If the states had not provided the force necessary the federal government would have been unable to assert dominance over the wayward states.

No one today questions that ending slavery was good and right. However, too few question the manner in which it was accomplished and the repercussions of those actions.

If our Congress and Senate had not subrogated their jobs to the Executive branch, we would not be in this fix. They became lazy and wanted power only. I suspect the Founding Fathers would not be tolerating what we see today

Madison would cringe if He was here to see the trampling of the constitution by the radical leftist democrats.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

If the Founding Fathers, of our free nation, could walk into Congress today, I believe they would have a lot to say to them.

First off, I think they would ask "everyone in the room" to sit down and open their ears and shut their mouths for 5 minutes, and remember your first love....... FREEDOM."

Upon leaving that congregation of "vipers", they would tell all of the lobbyists outside the doors of Congress to leave the grounds and not return. Anyone found talking to Congressmen will be given a one -way trip ticket to China.

Omg so true. I have an ancestor that signed the DOI and helped ratify the constituent. He and Benj Franklin were close friends and I’d love to see them take on todays Congress. It would also be funny to see how they react to the radical left. Could I be a fly on the wall….

This may have been the feelings of our Founding Fathers but no resemblance to this exists today in our country.

Madison, along with the majority of our Founders, would be disgusted by what the current Federal government has become.

If only the states retained their powers...and the federal government needed fewer employees. Perhaps we need to remind Congress that they are employees of the voters... Methinks so.

Thanks for you awesome column, Tara Ross!

What is so sad a brilliant man like Madison would not even be recognized in DC today.
