So here was the beginning of influence by threat. Perhaps the beginning of finding ways to ignore the constitution. Sounds like a dictatorship and by one vote the court allowed it to happen. Look where we are now. The thing I wonder most about is not what might have been it’s much too late for that, but can it be corrected and the beautiful American Constitutional Republic be salvaged? I hope and pray it can. but only with divine intervention. Excellent post, Tara.

The government attempts at all turns to own the people. The constitution had it set that the people owned the government. We need to push the Constitution's view.

Another example of the 9 worst presidents. His quasi-communist acts still reverberate and cause a whole slate of our woes.

FDR was the downfall of small government and the loss of many of our freedoms! Consider Coolidge and his adherence to the Constitution and FDR's hatred of it. It is what happens when "democracy rules" above the rule of a Republic. We are in out of control spending by both parties because of what FDR did, and which party today is calling for "court" packing? Which party is against the limits of our Constitution? Which party wants control of our daily lives? Vote wisely in Novembe.

Talk about pressure politics! His progressive moves provided some good things and some really bad things. Too many of us rely on the Social Security Administration for our financial security in our old age. It created a social system that does not do what was intended and it has become a huge financial burden on the government and the taxpayers. Perhaps if Congress had left the fund alone… In the long run, if ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas all the time. We can whine about it or do something about it. I choose to do and am trying to do my part.

FDR was not the beginning of the Big Government takeover and the attempted ruination of the US Constitution. IMHO it was Wilson, several administrations prior to FDR. Wilson ran as a Democrat but was an admitted Communist. He teed up FDR.

Go back a little further - to Lincoln, who threatened to throw the Chief Justice in jail if he didn't get out of his way.

That is a good point. Lincoln did more than that (unconstitutional acts) to keep the nation together. But nothing Lincoln did, unconstitutionally, reached beyond his individual acts. Yes, they were potentially dangerous precedents. However they were very unlike what Wilson, FDR, and their ilk did to write or rewrite law.

Careful, you're speaking out against acceptable history...

He’s a communist in sheep’s clothing to me. He and Wilson. Early forms of communism infecting our government and way of life.

Seems that usurping the Constitution has become the target de jour for politicians. Performing political gymnastics to see what will stick. Utilizing bureaucrats or executive orders to give the usurping an air of legitimacy without legislation leaving citizens none the wiser. Let’s not allow them to hoodwink us.

Minimum wage laws are destroying our economy. It is pushing out entry level jobs for teenagers and hurting small businesses. Even large corporations are cutting back jobs. Raising prices on the consumer is the end result.

FDR caused a lot of issues. The Commerce Claus is one example.

Thanks Tara for the lesson.

And so it began…

FDR is the reason the Constitution was amended to limit a president to two terms. Before it was an unspoken rule.

FDR was the most "Progressive" president with maybe the exceptions of Obama and Biden. Given FDR's precedents, the 3 branches pretty much ignore the Constitution. May God's will assist in preserving the Supreme Court, our only potential saving until less progressive minds prevail in DC. I seriously doubt that the next election will be helpful. Thank you Tara.
