Thank you for this post...My first Cousin was in that fight. He told us all about Father Capodanno's courage and bravery when he came home from Viet Nam.
A servant of God ministering on the front lines. Recognition by the military was justified. ‘Maybe’ canonization isn’t warranted, but the hypocrisy of the decision hanging on his military service is despicable. He was tending the flock God had placed under his care. And he literally gave his life willingly to do it. He’s a saint in my book!
The job of a chaplain goes far beyond giving sermons and communion. They are the spiritual leader of their cadre of men and women. Capodanno took this calling seriously and even in death lived for his flock.
Father Vincent Capodanno was a very brave man who comforted his Marines and who lived as they lived. The day he died, he endured several wounds but still he comforted and protected the wounded until he was also killed. His MOH was justly awarded and Sainthood is at hand. God bless Father Capodanno and God bless all who have served or currently serve this great nation. Thank you Tara for an additional MOH story this week.
One thing I appreciated about Navy Chaplains is that they were there when you needed them. I know that others were also, but this man went above and beyond as he sheltered one of his men, another sailor assigned to the Marines and serving as a Hospital Corpsman. Marines value them both very highly because they are frequently in the mud with them to either save their life or to save their soul. Father Vincent was remarkable man who worked with his Marines day in and out. He understood and applied the knowledge and faith to minister to Marines in their greatest time of distress. He certainly was acting as the hands of God in that jungle hell that it had become.
Fair winds and following seas, Chaplain Capodanno. May you enjoy the eternal reward you so richly deserve.
Whether he receives his Sainthood from the Catholic Church or not, Father Capodanno was a Saint to many Marines. His time here on earth I am sure has earned him Sainthood in Heaven.🙏
Everyone who dies in the service of my country is a saint!

Brave man, sounds like he deserves sainthood.
I'll go repost on X.

The country OWES all who serve in combat.
Without the 1% who serve we have no country

Outstanding example: Greater love has no man..... In passing - who could possibly need a saint more than people in the military? Thank you, Tara Ross!

Respect.
It is God himself who sees, anoints and ordains so we do not need to wait for a decision from men.
Thank You, Tara
Thank you Tara for another great MOH Monday. Fr.C was definitely doing his Saintly duty for God and Country that day. RIP Fr.C.

🇺🇲 I don't know the requirements for sainthood in the Roman Catholic church, but he was most certainly a Saint to his Marines. 🇺🇸
Thanks, TR!
Thank you, Tara, for this story of true heroism during Action!
Captain Capadanno was true Hero saving his fellows from death and their soles for eternity!
