Thanks for this MOH story in our generation, of all the men involved who risked their lives and especially Nicolas Checque who gave all for his fellow Americans. There are not enough MOH to go around for all who truly earn them.

This is a heartbreaking story. Edward Byers, Jr. certainly deserved the Medal of Honor, but Nicolas Checque does too. I hope that is remedied. He gave his life to rescue another person’s life. Dr. Joseph is no doubt deeply grateful to all the Seals that were involved in his rescue. It still hard to comprehend the magnitude of what those Seals faced even reading Edward Byer’s account. We owe them all a debt of gratitude!

Tara, this has not shown up on FB just like Friday’s about Evelyn Sharp. Wonder if something has happened to your group on FB. I never even got the usual message that it had been posted.

I am in awe of our MOH heroes. Their commitment to represent their fellow warriors, fallen and living, is an inspiration to the American people. We are proud of all of them. Thank you Edward Byers, Jr. for your example of courage, bravery and humility.

Happy birthday, Chief Byers. I think that both, you, and Nic Checque deserve the MOH. You Sir, are an American Hero. As a fellow Corpsman, I salute you. God bless you and God bless all who serve or have served this great nation. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

To earn the Medal of Honor requires bravery, courage, dedication and it seems humility to me. And of course self sacrifice if necessary. I am always impressed when I read these stories of these deserving souls. God I am proud to be an American and in some very small way am associated with them due to my own service to my Nation. I always stand in solidarity and honor for their service.

A true Hero giving credit to a self-less warrior. By such is America kept free. May both of their tribes increase. Thank you, Tara ross for keeping their memories alive.

If it were not for the sacrifice of Nicholas Checque, the mission could not have been completed. As point man, he lead the way in and took the enemy’s shot which in turn allowed Byers to react. But without the quick response and action of Byers, the hostage and team may have been forfeited. Byers action certainly deserved the recognition, and Byers’ thoughts that Checque s deserving the same recognition have merit as well.

A great tribute to the man who didn't make it home but who helped get the one they rescued. These men who get the MOH are always ready to do what's needed and give credit where it is due! Thanks, Tara. These stories are very inspiring, so we don't forget what these men did.

I agree, the pointman Cheque should have also received the MOH.
