Who would have thought that such a thing could have escaped the notice of Benjamin Franklin. It goes to show that many times Providence has and does intervene in the affairs of men. Thus the men who established this Republic did so with a strong reliance on a higher power, our creator God.

There are no such things as coincidences in my experience. The Providence of the Almighty definitely had hand in the formation of this nation.

Wow. Dr. Edward Bancroft sounds more like a mediator than a traitor, given what I just read. The fact that he shared treasonous information with England would make him a traitor and, subject to punishment as a traitor.

It would seem that his intentions were genuine and conciliatory but treasonous all the same.

I wonder if he ever suffered any negative consequences for his actions?

Thank you Tara for another history lesson and, new information to me. Perhaps Providence intervened to prevent Dr. Bancrofts information from being used against the interests of the Colonists?

Ironic that it was Silas Deane that bore the brunt of his misdeeds. Deane was Bancroft’s tutor. Deane’s father in law, Joseph Webb, hosted General Washington and the Comte de Rochambeau at his home, Hospitality Hall, in Wethersfield, CT in May 1781. There, they planned the campaign to Yorktown. You can visit Hospitality Hall and see the house Webb built for Deane and his daughter that was right next door. Along with a third home of similar age, they are preserved and run by the National Society of The Colonial Dames in the State of Connecticut, NSCDA for short. Tours of both houses are available in the Spring and Summer with a special candlelight tour available at Christmas.

Sometimes, the best motivator is when a second party, is holding a gun to your head, and threatens to remove every freedom that (we have), become accustomed to, for a long time.

Setting aside, (all) conspiracy theories, and political preferences, citizens of American freedom, must either, climb into the lifeboats of freedom, or start to enjoy swimming with the sharks and bottom feeders, that believe that (if America) is just left alone, that it can overcome all the problems that are plaguing our society today. When getting on board, bring a good paddle, or weapon of choice. Don't think that just holding onto the side of the freedom boats, that all will just (turn out), okay in the morning.

Freedom for the citizens, will not just happen (by coincidence).

If t[he God of Abraham], Issac, and Jacob is not in [the freedom lifeboat,] the coincidence that Freedom Will Ring Again, is only a pipe dream for "daytime soap operas!

Happy Easter, Tara.❤

Thanks for that. There are so many people, incidences and situations we have no clue about in our history.

I say he made a contribution to the American Revolution, but his position was never used against the American cause by the British. Was the information, although thorough, something that would have given the British any advantage or were they too conceited to pay attention?

I think he was a skunk and a traitor to the American cause and , as such , his remains should be dug up and placed in the sewer system of Washington DC and kept there forever . 🤬
