“I was literally on my knees when those first donuts were fried . . . with a prayer in my heart that this would do more for those who ate the donuts than satisfy a physical hunger."
These brave, wonderful and imaginative ladies provided a "taste of home" for these lonely, cold and weary men who were not even sure they would ever see home again! <3 We still have the Salvation Army today and they are still doing very good work and can still use our support.
Who would have thought that DOUGHNUTS would mean so much to the troops “over there”?
Those two Ladies felt compelled to make those doughnuts for our troops and they did it over and over and over again because the troops GREATLY appreciated those doughnuts!
As I have stated in prior comments, women have been a part of our nation's efforts in war from the beginning...Tara's book "She Fought Too" is a good starting point.
I absolutely love this story. The Salvation Army has done wonderful work for our military throughout. My dad (WW2), Navy, shared how they would be there when they came in, with free coffee. He was a “Bell Ringer” and always helped with the Christmas toy drive to pay them back for their kindness and outreach .
So interesting to learn about the “Doughnut Girls”. There are so many ways to support our military. These ladies found an ingenious way of doing it. It obviously meant a lot to the guys on the front lines. One even wrote home about it.
Doughnuts for doughboys. Cool
What a great idea those two young ladies had!! Thank God for those that think outside the box!! Thanks for today's lesson Tara!! 🇺🇸👍🇺🇸

great story Who knew Donuts meant so much.
To a young soldier or sailor the smallest things that bring familiarity and comfort brings an automatic spike in the moral of the troops
