It is no surprise to me that George Washington began the tradition of forward thinking. Ever since, it has been a hallmark of the best Presidents. The crew of the Double Eagle 2 were well aware of the risks involved, but followed the American tradition of exploration of the unknown.
Mostly unguided balloon flight is obviously very difficult but thanks to the Double Eagle 2, a longtime prediction by George Washington came true. Not by the French but by persevering Americans.
