Today some would call it “toxic masculinity “. In fact, it was a strong, determined and patriotic man who without thought for himself was willing to give his all and became a hero. There are still some of them around. We appreciate Demensio Rivera and men like him. It’s good his brave actions were finally given the honor due. It’s wonderful that his granddaughter received the metal for him. If he was still alive to receive it undoubtedly he would have said what other heroes before and after him have said: he was just doing his duty. He knew what needed to be done and he did it. A great start to another week. Thanks, Tara!

I wonder why Mr. Rivera didn't receive the MOH when his undeniably brave actions in Korea warranted the Medal. His bravery and determination saved lives, and as it turned out, it saved his own life as well. Thank you Tara for another MOH Monday.

To release a grenade in your own foxhole??? Determination to stop the enemy made him willing to give up his life.

It’s hard to add to the wonderful comments already posted, but Pvt. Demensio Rivera should have received the MOH from the beginning! I am glad the Army finally corrected their error, but it was a time when uncommon valor became more common during this hard fought war which checked dictatorial communism from overwhelming South Korea. May this soldier rest in peace.

🇺🇸 Much like his granddaughter, a hero I'd not heard of, until today.

Another hero fighting for the US.

Sadly, I wonder if it's even worth fighting for today.

But as this young man did not give up, then neither should we.
